His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrives in Memphis, 22,September 2009
His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been welcomed to Memphis with a fist bump and the greeting “hello Dalai.” It happened as the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader met interim Memphis Mayor Myron Lowery on Tuesday. 22, September 2009
His Holiness received the International Freedom Award from the National Civil Rights Museum on 23 September in Memphis, Tennessee, for his “steadfast commitment to protecting and defending the rights of the oppressed people of Tibet and elsewhere in the world.”
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama visited West Tennessee to accept the National Civil Rights Museum’s 2009 Freedom Award. He toured the museum and visited the Lorraine Motel section. He stood where Dr. Martin Luther King was standing when he was killed by an assassins bullet.
After the tour, the Dalai Lama held a press conference and talked about Dr. King and the things such as freedom of information, inner peace and religious harmony.
